Frequently asked questions

Does fitting the interface mean the system will keep up?
No. Sustained throughput also depends on host CPU and PCIe capacity, driver and buffer configuration, storage write speed, and how much processing happens per frame. Interface headroom is necessary, not sufficient.
How much headroom should I leave?
Plan on running well below the theoretical link rate. Protocol overhead, packet resend behavior and shared switching all reduce usable bandwidth, and multi-camera systems rarely divide a link cleanly.
