Frequently asked questions

Why does my measured FOV differ from the calculated value?
The thin-lens approximation ignores lens distortion, the real position of the entrance pupil, mechanical back focus and how the working distance is referenced. Treat the result as a starting point for lens selection, then confirm on the bench.
Can I use this for telecentric lenses?
No. Telecentric lenses have a fixed magnification and a specified field of view; use the manufacturer's specification rather than a focal-length calculation.
